200 Foot Plunge Off Cosens Bay Road

Updated: Oct 15

Vehicle plunges down steep 200 Metre bank.

Friday, July 19th 2024: An unusual evening for emergency responders in Coldstream.

Shortly after 8:30 PM, the Coldstream Fire Hall received reports of a motor vehicle incident in the 5800 block of Cosens Bay Road.

Minutes later, the car was reported to be on fire. The next update reported that a person had been thrown from the vehicle.

Once on scene, emergency responders found that the vehicle had left the road and ended up approximately 200 feet down a steep bank. They also learned there was a second person in the vehicle who had allegedly fled the scene.

Crews climbed down to the car to search for other occupants and check for fire. The approaching darkness and tough terrain made the job harder.

The person believed to be the driver was taken away by BC Ambulance.

A search of the accident scene and vehicle did not find the passenger.

RCMP, Lavington Fire Hall, and BC EHS were also on scene.
