Vernon Mourns the Loss of 15-Year-Old Lynza Henke

August 17, 2024: The Vernon community is grieving the tragic loss of 15-year-old Lynza Henke, who passed away from injuries sustained in a pedestrian incident on July 20th, 2024. Lynza was struck by a vehicle while crossing the street at the intersection of 32nd St and 30th Ave in Vernon.


Despite the best efforts of medical teams and the outpouring of prayers from her family and the community, Lynza succumbed to her injuries.

Her family has been sharing updates on social media, expressing their gratitude for the support they’ve received during this devastating time.


In a heartfelt post, they wrote, "We loved the 15 years we had with Lynza. She has gone to heaven and we will miss her so much. We are thankful for the prayers of many and the thoughts and kindness of so many."


Lynza was known for her love of making fudge, which she had been preparing to sell at the upcoming IPE (Interior Provincial Exhibition).


Her family shared that she had been working on a spreadsheet with over 100 different flavors, a testament to her creativity and passion.



A funeral service will be held in her honor, and the family welcomes all who wish to attend to celebrate Lynza's life. As the investigation into the incident continues, the driver involved remains cooperative with authorities, and the community is urged to respect the legal process during this time.


The Henke family, who also faces the challenge of Lynza’s mother, Lynella, battling cancer, has asked for continued prayers and support.
