Salmon Arm, B.C. – Last Saturday, an 18-year-old man tragically drowned after falling through the ice on Shuswap Lake.

Emergency crews, including Salmon Arm Fire Department, BC Emergency Health Services, and Shuswap Search and Rescue (SSAR), and Volunteers responded to the call near the Raven subdivision and Sandy Point.

On Monday, members of SSAR assisted the RCMP Underwater Recovery Team in recovering the body.

SSAR has since joined the RCMP in warning the public to stay off local lakes, emphasizing that fluctuating weather conditions make ice unpredictable and unsafe.

"Our thoughts are with the family at this most difficult time," SSAR stated.
