The Vernon North Okanagan RCMP announced today that they have located a suspect vehicle and driver allegedly involved in a fatal accident Monday morning.
The tragic incident took place on November 6th, 2023, at approximately 4:40 a.m., when a pedestrian was struck and killed by a vehicle on 25th Avenue in Vernon.
The victim succumbed to the injuries sustained during the collision and was pronounced deceased at the scene. The driver and vehicle left the scene before emergency responders arrived.
Investigators identified the make and model of the vehicle involved, utilizing debris found at the crash site and CCTV footage in the vicinity, which provided a license plate number.
This vital information led the police to a specific residence where the suspect vehicle was located.
Armed with a search warrant law enforcement officers seized the vehicle from the property.
The alleged driver, a 31-year-old man residing in Vernon, voluntarily surrendered himself to the police. Following his arrest, he was charged with one count of failing to remain under the Criminal Code.
After an initial court appearance, the accused was released from custody. He is set to reappear in court on February 8th, 2024.
