Coldstream Fire Department rescued two men from Kalamalka Lake on Saturday afternoon, just after 12:30 p.m. Unconfirmed reports indicate that a boat carrying the two individuals had overturned hundreds of meters from shore.
When emergency crews arrived, they found RCMP assisting one man who apparently swam to shore, while the second person was unaccounted for.
Firefighters set up a lookout station along Westkal Road, from where they spotted the missing individual clinging to the hull of an overturned watercraft.
It remains unclear how long he and his partner had been stranded or when the other man made the risky swim to shore, landing near the new Kal Beach pier.
Both were suffering from the effects of the cold water.
A sharp-eyed firefighter noticed a private citizen at a nearby dock about 1/2 a kilometre distant and quickly enlisted his help, commandeering him and his boat for the rescue.
Together, they navigated to the stranded man, pulled him aboard, and swiftly transported him to shore, where paramedics were waiting with warm blankets and a warm ambulance.
As of the latest report, both men were in stable condition. Thanks to the quick actions of local emergency responders—and the assistance of a Good Samaritan—this incident had a happy ending.
