Construction Begins on New Monte Creek Fire Hall

November 1 2024: Construction Begins on New Monte Creek Fire Hall

Construction has officially begun on the new Monte Creek Fire Hall, marking a significant milestone in fire protection services for the region.

The facility, which has been years in the making, will address the increasing need for emergency response in Monte Creek and surrounding areas. The fire hall will be located on Highway 1, conveniently positioned to cover over 500 properties, including both residential and agricultural lands.

The new fire hall is anticipated to house modern firefighting equipment, including a pumper truck, a water tender, and several support vehicles. Once complete, the hall will be staffed by paid-on-call firefighters, a model which allows local residents to train and respond to emergencies as needed. The Thompson-Nicola Regional District (TNRD) is funding the project, backed by local property tax contributions, following approval from the community.

Preliminary groundwork is now underway, with full construction expected to finish by the end of 2025. This state-of-the-art fire hall aims to enhance response times and support faster aid to Monte Creek and its vicinity.

For those interested in joining the firefighting team, the TNRD plans to launch a recruitment drive for paid-on-call firefighters closer to the hall’s opening. Prospective firefighters will undergo thorough training to meet provincial standards, ensuring they are well-prepared to protect the community.

The new fire hall may also lead to lower insurance rates for nearby homeowners. Many insurance providers offer reduced premiums for properties within a certain distance of a fire hall, so residents are encouraged to check with their insurers once the hall is up and running.

The Monte Creek Firehall is being built on land that has been donated by the Herman Family.

It will serve 356 properties in Grasslands, Rivers and the Peaks, including properties in Monte Creek, Del Oro, Lafarge, and the east end of Barnhartvale.
