Monday November 5, 2024: Environment Canada and DriveBC have issued a Winter Storm Warning for the Coquihalla Highway, from Hope to Merritt, and other mountain passes, forecasting heavy snowfall and challenging driving conditions on Monday and into Monday night.
A strong Pacific frontal system will bring gusty winds and snowfall, affecting visibility and making travel potentially hazardous.
Conditions to Expect:
Coquihalla Highway (Hope to Merritt): Snow will begin in the morning, with accumulations of up to 20 cm expected near the summit by Tuesday morning. Strong southerly winds will pick up, reaching gusts of 80 km/h, with blowing snow leading to near-zero visibility and treacherous driving conditions. Lower elevations may see a switch to rain by afternoon, but heavy snow will persist at higher elevations.
Okanagan Connector (Merritt to Kelowna): Snow will also begin early Monday, accompanied by gusty winds. Conditions will transition to rain at lower elevations in the afternoon, but up to 4 cm of snow may accumulate at higher points, with blowing snow expected.
Drivers are advised to be prepared for rapidly changing conditions. Check DriveBC before setting out.
