December 24th, 2024: In the last two weeks, British Columbia's egg production and supply have been disrupted due to new outbreaks of avian influenza.
Those disruptions are causing supply issues for retailers. Locally, some local North Okanagan grocery stores are out of eggs. At least one has posted a sign saying avian flu is responsible.
The Fraser Valley, a key region for poultry farming, reported multiple infections among egg-laying flocks.
Notably, a major facility housing 45,000 birds, including 30,000 egg-laying hens, was affected, leading to the complete culling of the flock to control the spread of the virus.
