Heavy Snow and Road Closures on Highway 1

A winter storm is bringing heavy snowfall to parts of British Columbia, with 20 to 35 cm expected overnight. Affected areas include North Columbia, Kinbasket, West Columbia, and the Trans-Canada Highway from Eagle Pass to Rogers Pass. Snow accumulation is making travel difficult, with reduced visibility in heavy snowfall.

  • Location: South side of Hwy 1 at Loftus Road

  • Air Temperature: -0.2°C

  • Snow Accumulation Since 6 AM: 16.0 cm

  • Total Snow Depth: 47.7 cm

  • Wind: Calm

  • Road Temperature: -0.3°C



Highway 1 Closures & Restrictions

  • Closed: Griffin Lake Avalanche Gate to Clanwilliam OH Bridge (9-24 km west of Revelstoke) for avalanche control. Expected reopening at 5:30 PM PST.

  • Planned Closure: Revelstoke to Golden at 9:00 PM PST for avalanche control. Commercial vehicles will be held in Malakwa; passenger vehicles may use the frontage road.
