The Vernon Search and Rescue Group Society (Vernon SAR) was called out Friday evening, shortly after 4:30 PM, to assist two skiers who became lost on Silver Star Mountain as darkness fell.
RESCUED SKIERS HEAD TO FIRST AID BUILDING
Rescue teams used snowmobiles to locate the two young men, both visitors from outside the country, at the Vernon Snowmobile Association chalet. The skiers were found safe, dry, and uninjured before being reunited with their grateful family.
The skiers summoned help by using satellite communication on one of their cellphones.
After being located, the pair was escorted to the Mountain Patrol Clinic for a brief medical assessment.
Vernon SAR expressed appreciation for the skiers’ calm demeanor, for activating their SOS feature promptly, and for staying put, which allowed rescue efforts to proceed efficiently.
The organization also thanked the trail groomer operator who assisted in the successful rescue.
Vernon Search and Rescue would like to remind those venturing into the outdoors to always be prepared for unexpected situations.
Carrying essential emergency equipment, such as GPS communication devices and backup power sources, and being ready to stay overnight if necessary can make all the difference in ensuring safety.
