January 2, 2025: Highway 1 (TransCanada Highway) remains closed in both directions due to a multi-vehicle incident between Tunkwa Lake Road and Cavesson Way, approximately 18 to 30 kilometers west of Kamloops.
UPDATE: RCMP, Savona Fire Rescue and multiple BC Ambulances including a BC Air Ambulance attended the crash location. At least two people are believed to have sustained serious injuries from the incident.
The closure spans 11.3 kilometers, and no detours are currently available.
Crews are assessing the situation, with the highway tentatively expected to reopen today at 4:00 PM PST. Updates will be provided at the same time.
Weather Conditions in the Area: According to Environment Canada, light snow is expected to persist until late this afternoon near Kamloops. Temperatures are steady around -2°C, with a wind chill making it feel like -9°C.
