RCMP Dive Team Joins Search

Search Continues at Westside Road Slide Site

April 11, 2025: Central Okanagan Search and Rescue (COSAR) was back on Okanagan Lake Friday, continuing efforts to search the waters below the site of the April 1 Westside Road landslide.

The ongoing search aims to locate a vehicle and its driver, believed to have been swept down the steep embankment and into the lake during the late hours of April 1.

Previous searches have reportedly uncovered items consistent with belongings thought to have been in the missing person’s pickup truck, such as propane tanks and a hot tub cover.

The RCMP dive team was in the water during the early part of Friday, April 11. As of yet, there has been no official word on whether the vehicle or the missing person has been found.

Sonar mapping of the immediate area reveals that the underwater topography mirrors the steep landscape above, with a sharp drop-off and rocky lake bottom—factors that likely complicate the search and increase the risk to divers and recovery teams.

Screenshots from the free app "i-Boating" show the lakebed sloping dramatically to depths of over 700 feet just a kilometre from shore, emphasizing the challenging conditions facing search crews.
