In a press release, North Okanagan RCMP reported the discovery of what they say are improvised explosive devices inside a vehicle in Spallumcheen on January 22, 2024.
Following a traffic stop at 11:45 p.m. Monday, a suspicious vehicle, previously having allegedly evaded police in Vernon, was intercepted on Reservoir Road.
The driver was apprehended without incident, and upon searching the vehicle, a frontline officer uncovered items resembling hand grenades.
The area was cordoned off until the RCMP Explosive Disposal Unit (EDU) could attend. EDU officers rendered the items safe on January 23, confirming their explosive nature.
The driver was released, and the police investigation continues.
