Brush Pile Burns and Fire Detection Testing Next Week

January 3, 2025: Vernon Fire Rescue Services (VFRS) and the Forest Enhancement Society of B.C. (FESBC) will conduct controlled brush pile burns near the south end of Eastside Road starting Wednesday, January 8, as part of wildfire mitigation efforts.

These burns will also support the testing of SenseNet, an advanced early wildland fire detection system.

SenseNet uses a network of sensors to monitor environmental conditions, including temperature, humidity, and smoke levels, to quickly identify and alert authorities to potential wildfires. By providing early warnings, the system enhances response times and helps mitigate fire risks in vulnerable areas.

Residents and visitors in the area may notice visible smoke during the testing period.

The City of Vernon appreciates the community's understanding and cooperation as it continues implementing proactive measures to strengthen wildfire safety.
