COLDSTREAM March 13th 2025: A sudden snowstorm caused a major traffic disruption Thursday morning when a semi-truck crashed on Highway 6, leading to an eight-hour road closure.
The snowstorm swept through parts of the North Okanagan starting around 5 a.m., leaving a fresh layer of snow on the highway and surrounding areas.
Just as quickly as it arrived, the snow had melted by mid-morning, but the aftermath of the crash took much longer to clear.
Shortly after 7 a.m., the semi-truck, hauling a trailer full of wood chips, lost control and overturned, blocking the highway between Aberdeen and Kalamalka Lake Roads.
Crews faced a lengthy recovery effort as they first separated the trailer from the tractor, then painstakingly emptied the open-topped trailer by hand to reduce its weight.
Two large tow trucks worked carefully to reposition the overturned trailer before it was finally removed.
During the closure, traffic was rerouted onto Aberdeen Road.
Once the semi was cleared, hydro contractors replaced a utility pole that had been snapped in the crash, restoring power to about half a dozen nearby customers.
No serious injuries were reported in the incident.
