Vernon Public Washroom Solution

Staff at Vernon City Hall may have developed an equitable solution to concerns raised by some downtown businesses regarding the outdoor public washroom facilities.

Local businesses have expressed concerns that entrenched street activity is discouraging commerce near the new public washroom, which was installed in 2019.

However, removing the washroom altogether might be considered callous, given how many homeless individuals rely on it.

The area around the washroom originally included park benches, shrubbery, and shade trees.

To discourage gathering, city staff have instead removed several of the taller trees and park benches.

Hopefully this solution satisfies all parties.
