Grindrod Garlic Festival

Updated: Oct 16

The Grindrod Garlic Festival, first held on August 22, 2010, at Grindrod Park, in Grindrob BC, has become a staple event in the community, moving down the road to Enderbys Quilakwa Park in 2023.

Originally organized by the Grindrod Recreation Association, the festival aimed to increase the use of Grindrod Park and raise funds for a new community hall. Over the years, the festival has grown to highlight much more than just garlic, showcasing the rich offerings of the region.

The event, which is free to enter, has always been about more than just garlic. While garlic remains at the heart of the festival, with competitions for the best garlic varieties and garlic braids, the festival also features a wide array of local produce, prepared foods, artisan crafts, and more.

The Grindrod Garlic Festival Society, incorporated as a B.C. Society in 2015, organizes the event with the goals of promoting local food and agriculture, fostering community spirit, and supporting related local events and education initiatives.

Visitors to the festival can explore stalls offering everything from fresh garlic and garlic-infused products to handmade jewelry, pottery, and organic produce. The festival also features a food court with diverse offerings, including Greek food, bannock, smoothies, and even Japanese curry.

For those looking for more than just garlic, there are artisans selling unique garden art, woodwork, and alpaca fiber clothing, among other items.

The festival’s family-friendly atmosphere includes interactive workshops, art contests, and live music, ensuring there’s something for everyone.
