July 9, 2024: Over the past six weeks, there have been four suspicious fires in Coldstream parks and wooded areas. The latest occurred on July 4th at 2:10 pm in the 9700 block of Coldstream Creek Road.
RCMP and fire crews suspect the fire was human-caused, though no suspects or witnesses have been identified.
Last month, two fires near Cosen’s Bay were investigated, and a burning tree stump in Creekside Park was reported on May 24th. The incidents might not be related, but they pose serious public safety risks.
Cpl. Tania Finn of North Okanagan RCMP stated that these fires could have easily spread to nearby properties.
Police urge anyone with information or dashcam footage from July 4th between 1:45 pm and 2:00 pm around Coldstream Creek Road, Cosen’s Bay Road, or Grieves Road to come forward.
